Concert Fantasy
Op.62 1983
David Hellewell
Dedicated to John Brogden.
This piece was initially inspired by Chopin’s Revolutionary Study,
but, as in all Hellewell’s music, it’s no modern copy, but a new and highly
original composition of high-powered virtuosity and complex rhythmic and dynamic
changes, ranging over a wide variety of moods and idioms, from dramatic flights
of tinkling fantasy to passionate power blocks and ‘fractured’ classical sequences.
It is truly is a ‘Concert Fantasy’ of interacting forms and idioms , offering
the listener a new, yet familiar, unique and exciting musical experience. |
